Enrichment of waste sewage sludge for enhancing methane production from cellulose

چکیده
Low ability of waste sewage sludge to degrade cellulose is observed due its less cellulolytic bacteria content. The enrichment in the absence or presence carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) was conducted improve anaerobic digestion (AD) this study. Compared initial (IS), enriched without CMC addition (ES) displayed 69.81% higher CH4 yield and about 1.7-fold greater biodegradation cellulose. In particular, bacterial archaeal diversities samples inoculated with ES were significantly altered, Ruminiclostridium Methanobacterium as predominant genera. Enriched (ESC) enhanced methane production at fermentation but showed no distinct difference compared control after incubation 24 days. These findings suggest that more beneficial for promoting AD cellulose, providing a novel insight efficient energy utilization lignocellulosic wastes.

متن کاملProduction of bacterial cellulose and enzyme from waste fiber sludge
BACKGROUND Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a highly crystalline and mechanically stable nanopolymer, which has excellent potential as a material in many novel applications, especially if it can be produced in large amounts from an inexpensive feedstock. Waste fiber sludge, a residue with little or no value, originates from pulp mills and lignocellulosic biorefineries. A high cellulose and low ligni...

The purpose of this study was to utilize low quality date syrup, a rich and available source of nutrient in Iran, for the production of bacterial cellulose using Gluconacetobacter xylinus. Static batch fermentationfor the purpose of cellulose production by G. xylinus (PTCC, 1734) was studied using low quality date syrupand sucrose solution (Bx. 10%) as fermentation media at 28°C. Re...
متن کاملEffect of sulfur-containing compounds on anaerobic degradation of cellulose to methane by mixed cultures obtained from sewage sludge.
Tests were made to determine the effects of inorganic and organic sulfur sources on the degradation of cellulose to methane in a chemically defined medium with sulfur-poor inoculum prepared from sewage sludge. The results show that a sulfur source of about a 0.85 mM concentration is essential for the degradation of cellulose to CH4. However, the production of CH4 from CO2 and H2 provided in the...
